Yangu Oil is also known as Cape Chestnut Oil because the tree that the oil is derived from is commonly known as the Cape Chestnut Tree. Traditionally, the oil has been widely used in African skin care due to its remarkable skin and wellness benefits.
A member of the Rutaceae family, the beautiful cape chestnut tree is native to the Western Cape of South Africa, Kenya and other regions of Africa. The tree produces large, striking pale pink flowers that cover its low, wide deciduous canopy. The fruits transition from green to brown at maturity and are said to resemble horse chestnuts. When the pod-like fruits ripen, they open and release tiny black seeds from which the oil is pressed. After the ripened fruits are collected, the seeds are then removed by hands and then the seeds are cold pressed to produce the oil.

The ripened fruits are collected by local tribal women's groups. A special long-armed harvest picking tool is used that ensures the women are not at risk of injury during the collection process.
