Aloe Vera is a cactus-like evergreen plant that belongs to the tree lily family. It is native to the Mediterranean area in Europe and to Southern Africa but is now cultivated in many regions of the world. The mucilaginous gel obtained from the leaves of this plant is widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations. The gel offers soothing and healing properties and is comprised of over 200 constituents, including polysaccharides, enzymes, glycoproteins, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Aloe vera oxygenates the skin and allows rapid healing, reduces inflammation and soothes the skin. Our Aloe ingredients are a healing addition to mouth rinses, tooth wipes and other dental products for pets.
We offer a broad range of high quality natural botanicals and herbs for use in pet care applications. This category lists our conventional botanical extracts that are associated with natural pet care. They are based on the expert recommendations of Mary L. Wulff and Greg L. Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction (CO2) of sensitive plant materials yields oils of the highest quality for use in pet care, holistic and aromatherapy applications. CO2 extracts are often preferred to steam distilled essential oils because CO2 extracts retain more of the plant's original chemical composition. CO2s produce superior aroma, fresher flavor, and they retain superior bioactive properties. This category lists our conventional CO2 Extracts that are associated with natural pet care. Visit our main CO2 Extracts category to view our complete line of CO2 Extracts.
Essential oils are an effective way to naturally fragrance pet care products and provide anti-bacterial, insect repellent and other beneficial properties. Essential oils like Lavender and Roman Chamomile can help calm distressed pets. Essential oils like Roman Chamomile that are known to possess anti-inflammatory properties can help to ease swelling and muscular aches. Please Note: Essential oils are highly concentrated and not all essential oils are safe to use with all animal types. Cats, for instance, are especially sensitive to particular essential oils as their livers are not able to process the constituents effectively. Although we supply a large range of essential oils, it is your responsibility to research and confirm that the particular oils and quantities used are safe for use within your intended application. This category lists our essential oils that are associated with natural pet care. They are based on the expert recommendations of Kristen Leigh Bell as described in her book Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals. [Kristen Leigh Bell. (2002). Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals. Forres, Scotland: Findhorn Press Publisher.] Visit our main Essential Oils category to view our complete line of essential oils. If you order essential oils that are 16 oz. or larger in size, we may ship them in PET containers to avoid breakage during shipment. Please transfer these oils immediately into glass bottles.
A true hydrosol is the pure, distillate water that remains after essential oils are steam distilled from the original botanical material. Hydrosols impart natural fragrance and beneficial properties, and are far less concentrated than essential oils. We specialize in sourcing fresh, pure hydrosols from reputable distillers. Our hydrosols are carefully packaged and stored to protect these highly beneficial waters. Except for our conventional Witch Hazel Hydrosol, all of our hydrosols are free of preservatives. Animal expert Kristen Leigh Bell and hydrosol expert Suzanne Catty recommend using hydrosols instead of essential oils with cats. Use hydrosols in ointments, creams, insect repellent sprays, calming sprays, and in place of water in other pet care formulations. We ship our hydrosols in plastic to avoid breakage, but the hydrosols should be transferred to dark glass as soon as possible.
Historic use and modern research have both shown that oat and oat derived ingredients have exceptional dermatological benefits when used in skin care applications for both humans and pets. Oat based ingredients relieve skin irritations, itching and redness due to allergy, wind exposure or other causes. They possess excellent emollient properties. Oat based ingredients are suitable for inclusion in formulations intended to aid sensitive skin and can be used in formulations intended for dogs, cats and other pets. Our superior quality oat ingredients are available in many different forms with varying contents of protein, starch, beta glucan and lipids.
For centuries, people have bathed and soaked in the seas and fortified their bathwater with salts to help promote optimal health, beautiful skin and ease sore muscles and joints. Veterinarians and pet owners are discovering that mineral-rich salts can also be especially beneficial to canine skin while helping to ease joint and muscular pain of injured or aging pets.

Vegetable butters are obtained by blending the nutritive natural fatty fractions of a vegetable oil. They are solid at room temperature. Depending on the butter, the fractions come directly from either the oil or hydrogenated oil or the unsaponifiable fraction. Vegetable butters are rich in beneficial nutrients that can help condition the skin and coat. Firm butters such as Cocoa Butter contributes to the viscosity and stability of emulsions, and they give rigidity to stick products and balms.
