Our Opaque Coconut Melt and Pour Soap Base is a white vegetable glycerin soap base. This gentle formulation lathers well and does not have a strong odor.

Melt & Pour Soap Bases are easy to work with, but it is important that you use care when heating them. We recommend using a double boiler to gently heat the base, and stir frequently. Don't leave the base heating on the stove after it's fully melted or it may dry out and form a skin.

Comments: Unfortunately, this melt and pour base made the soaps very drying. It left a soap film on my skin. I might try another melt and pour base with olive oil to check if there is a difference.

FNWL Response: Hi Angela, overheating melt and pour soap bases or keeping it on the stove longer than it takes to melt it can dry out the soap and cause moisture loss. (It's also best not to microwave melt and pour soap, though some people do have successful results when doing it carefully and in short bursts.) This could be the reason for your results. We strongly encourage you to heat your melt and pour soap at a low temperature, using a double boiler. We offer a double boiler insert in our Equipment section if you need one.
