Part 05: Packaging and Application of Mineral Based Cosmetics

Packaging

Natural based cosmetics contain no preservatives or minimal preservatives, are more prone to bacteria, and have a much shorter shelf life than do commercial cosmetics. Although you can wash and reuse old makeup containers, we recommend that you always store the cosmetics that you create in brand new containers. The containers cost very little and assure cleanliness. For more information, refer to the Shelf Life section of this guide.

FromNatureWithLove.com sells a variety of containers perfectly suited for storage of your cosmetics. Each recipe suggests appropriate containers. The two most commonly used types of containers that you will use in your cosmetic formulations are the following:

Cosmetic Applicators

You may already have a selection of cosmetic brushes, puffs and sponges for use in applying your make up. If you are accustomed to using the built-in applicators that are supplied with your commercial line of makeup, you will need to purchase a selection of brushes and/or other suitable applicators for use with your natural cosmetics. Modestly priced average quality applicators can be purchased at most discount and drug stores. A selection of higher quality brushes and applicators can typically be found by visiting stores that specialize exclusively in cosmetics.
