The amla fruit, also known as the Indian gooseberry, comes from a small tree that grows throughout India. The tree is worshipped as "Mother Nature" due to its nourishing fruit. The fruit is one of the highest natural sources of vitamin C, and it yields an oil that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to condition the hair and scalp. The therapeutic properties of Amla are well documented in Ayurvedic medicine and beauty regimens. Amla Fruit Powder may be used in hair conditioners, hair rinses, facials, body masks, creams and lotions.

To use Amla Powder, make a hot water infusion with the powder and strain it. The tea can be used to rinse the hair after shampooing. Amla Powder is best used in combination with shikakai, aritha, neem, bhringraj and tulsi powders. When using the herbs in combination, steep all of the herbs in water and strain the tea. The tea should be kept refrigerated and used within 4 days or preserved with an anti-bacterial preservative.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Depending on its method of application, this herb may naturally darken or tint hair. Please test in an inconspicuous area before more widespread application.

The actual nut or derivative from the nut, like an oil or powder, may contain a protein or proteins that elicits an allergic reaction. Comments: Being African American, I purchased this to add to my organic mud wash. I only used it once, however, it left my hair very soft to the touch and easy to manage. I am also using this on my eleven year old daughter, and her hair is also much more manageable. We both have 4c hair.
