Coffee Bean Butter

Our Coffee Bean Butter is produced by blending cold pressed Coffee Seed Oil and Sweet Almond Oil with hydrogenated vegetable oil. This process creates a butter with good oxidative stability, a delicious coffee aroma and a smooth, silky feel.

Coffee Butter is a semi-soft, light brown colored butter with a strong, delicious aroma of coffee. It is similar in properties to coffee oil. It does not have caffeine in it as caffeine is a water soluble component of the bean, but the aroma is of pure coffee. Coffee Bean Butter can be used in a wide array of formulations including soaps, lotions, creams and lip balms. The recommended usage rate is 3-10%. However, its texture allows it to be easily used at up to 100%.

Coffee Bean Butter is a soft butter, and can be used as is. It is about the same consistency as avocado butter, but has a creamier, more luxurious texture.

Quick Coffee Bean Butter Recipes

Below are several easy Coffee Bean Butter recipes. Coffee Bean Butter is emphasized in each recipe, and no more than 4 ingredients are required per recipe. Use these recipes as a basis for your own special formulations.

Quick Coffee Bean Butter

Coffee Bean Butter has a creamy, spreadable texture and is wonderful to use "as is." I like to keep several jars on hand so that I'm ready for those moments when I need quick gifts.

Ingredients:

  • Coffee Bean Butter

Directions:

  • Slowly melt Coffee Bean Butter in a double boiler. Be sure that you melt enough coffee bean butter to fill your jar(s).
  • Pour the melted butter into pretty jars and allow to cool.

Packaging Ideas:

I am especially fond of packaging the butter in our PET Jars:

Latte Lip Balm For Lip Balm Jars

This recipe makes a sumptuous Coffee Bean Butter balm that has the ideal consistency for lip balm jars. The balm nourishes the lips while adding a light shine.

The Coffee Bean Butter naturally fragrances the balm, but flavor or essential oil can be added if desired. Use special caution if using essential oils in lip care applications. Dulce de Leche, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, and French Vanilla Flavor Oils are amongst those that blend wonderfully with the natural coffee aroma of the butter. Vanilla Oleoresin, Nutmeg Essential Oil or Cinnamon Essential Oil can be used sparingly to maintain an "all natural" balm.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Part Coffee Bean Butter
  • 1 Part Beeswax Pellets
  • 2 Parts Vegetable Oil
  • Optional: 5 Drops Flavor Oil Per Ounce of Balm

Measure the ingredients by volume, not by weight. If desired, combine two or more vegetable oils and use your vegetable oil blend for the 2 part vegetable oil requirement. Jojoba, Watermelon Seed and Kukui Nut are amongst the cold pressed vegetable oils that we recommend for use in lip balms. For additional nourishment, include a small percentage of Vitamin E Oil as a part of your vegetable oil blend. To extend the shelf life of your balm, include 2% T-50 or T-80 Vitamin E oil in the vegetable oil blend.

Directions:

  • Melt the Coffee Bean Butter, Beeswax Pellets and Vegetable Oil slowly in a double boiler.
  • Stir well.
  • If desired, add flavor oil and stir.
  • Pour into small lip balm containers and let cool.

Packaging Ideas:

  • Our beautiful Crystal Jars are the perfect size for lip balms.
  • We offer a selection of small jars that are perfect for lip balm packaging. We recommend the 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 ounce sizes for lip balms.

Latte Lip Gloss For Lip Balm Tubes

The above Latte Lip Balm recipe makes a soft balm that is soft and applies well by jar. When making Lip Gloss for packaging in a lip balm tube, follow the same recipe, but use ONLY 1 part vegetable oil instead of 2 parts. This creates a more rigid product that will hold up and apply better from within the tubes.

As the lip gloss cools, a small sink hole will form in the tubes. Retain a small portion of the mixture in your double boiler to fill the sink holes (reheat it if it has solidified).

Mocha Bath and Massage Melts

The below recipe is easy to make and combines the rich, natural aromas and differing textures of Coffee Bean and Cocoa Butters. This butter blend can be used as the basis for soothing and moisturizing massage melts, bath melts and body balms. Refer to the Packaging Ideas section for more ideas.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Part Coffee Bean Butter
  • 2 Parts Cocoa Butter

Directions:

  • Measure the ingredients by volume, not by weight.
  • Slowly melt Coffee Bean Butter and Cocoa Butter in a double boiler.
  • Pour the melted butter blend into tart tins or other desired mold/container and let cool.

Tips:

We recommend making a small batch so that you can test the consistency and adapt the recipe if you personally prefer a firmer or a softer butter texture. Use more cocoa butter and/or add a little beeswax for a firmer texture, and use more Coffee Bean Butter or add a little vegetable oil for a softer texture. Try pouring a small quantity or your formulation into one or two of our Silicon Mini Pinch Bowls, and allow the mixture to cool. Our Silicon Mini Pinch Bowls are a perfect way to test without wasting packaging.

Packaging Ideas:

Try our foil cups or tart tins for packaging bath melts. Massage melts can be packaged in our tart tins. For larger, impressive massage melt bars, you can mold them using any of our soap molds (you might need to adjust the consistency of the recipe to ensure that you can properly unmold the bar. If you have trouble, try putting the mold into the freezer for a few minutes). Our large swivel-up deodorant style containers can also be used to make a massage balm that melts upon contact with the skin.
